COLLEGE STATION, TX – With his eighth-place finish on Friday night in the men's shot put competition, the University at Buffalo's Rob Golabek earned All-America status at the NCAA National Indoor Track and Field Championships in College Station, TX.
Golabek finished with a best throw of 61-4.75 (18.71m) to place eighth overall. Golabek achieved the top throw with his second attempt in the first round. He moved into final round standing eighth as the top nine throwers advanced. Golabek earned first-team All-America honors from the USTFCCCA.
In the final rounds, Golabek was not able to better his throw from the preliminaries but came close on his final attempt which went 61-2.75 (18.66m).
Brigham Young's Leif Arrhenius won the event with a best throw of 65-4.25 (19.92m).
The women's shot put will be held on Saturday. UB's Becky O'Brien is in the field.
