AKRON, OH – The University at Buffalo men's and women's indoor track and field teams completed their regular season at the Zips Open at Akron's Stile Field House. There was no team scoring in the small meet with only Akron and UB fielding full teams and the Bulls resting many of their top athletes. The Bulls posted five first-place finishes with the men taking three victories and the women scoring a pair of wins.
UB swept the men's and women's 800-meter runs. In the men's 800-meter race, junior John Bauman won in 1:53.55. The Bulls earned the top three spots in the women's 800-meters as freshman Leah Wightman lowered her ECAC qualifying mark by four-hundredths of a second with her victory in 2:12.84. JuniorGillian Taylor was second in 2:16.13 and freshman Aimee Hopkinswas third in a season-best 2:16.64.
The UB men took both horizontal jumps as junior Andrew Omoregieand freshman Tomarris Bell were victors. Omoregie won the long jump at 21-0.75 (6.42m). He was also UB's top finisher in the men's 60-meter hurdles in 8.24 seconds. Bell won the triple jump at 44-11.50 (13.70m) with freshman teammate Richie Sebuharara finishing second at 43-5 (13.23m).
Junior Ajla Glavasevic won the women's shot put at 37-6.50 (11.44m). Glavasevic, expected to compete in the women's pentathlon at next weekend's Mid-American Conference Championships, also placed third in the women's 60-meter hurdles in 9.11 seconds and fourth in the high jump at 5-2.25 (1.58m).
The Bulls travel to Mt. Pleasant, MI for the MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, February 26 and 27.
