Swimming and Diving Sweeps St. Bonaventure

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York men's and women's swimming and diving teams easily swept St. Bonaventure at the Alumni Arena Natatorium on Friday. The men won 160-132, while the women defeated the Bonnies, 161-98.

The men were paced by Scott Huang who won a pair of individual events. The UB sophomore won the 200 breaststroke in 2:03.86 as well as the 200 individual medley in 153.30. 

Itai De La Vega won the 100 breaststroke in 56.95 and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team.  Eric Jensen was also on the winning 200 medley relay team and won the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.44.

Other winners on the men's side, were Charles Barry (1650 freestyle), Hudson Carroll (100 backstroke), Billy Patrum (500 freestyle) and Matt Bitara (200 backstroke). 

The women's team won every event led by Megan Burns, Victoria Butler and Spencer Rodriguez who each won two individual events. Burns won the 200 freestyle (1:51.84) and stayed undefeated on the season in the 50 freestyle (23.36). Butler won the 200 butterfly (2:09.60) as well as the 200 individual medley (2:13.21). Rodriguez won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.65) and the 100 butterfly (59.12).

Other winners were Nicole Rodriguez (11 backstroke), Eve Kosten (100 freestyle), Claudia Casale (200 backstroke), Cristina Czyrka (200 breaststroke), Saoirse Palu-Benson (500 freestyle) and Jessica Powers (1,650 freestyle).

The team of Emily Nelson, Alexis Valedon, Spencer Rodriguez and Taylor Steffl won 200 medley relay. Paula Stoddard, Nelson, Spencer Rodriguez and Steffl teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:38.60.

In the diving well, the men were led by Cade Bennett who took both the one-meter (314.33) and three-meter (382.95) events. The UB sophomore broke a seven-year-old school record on the three-meter board. Valerie Lortie won the one-meter board and Abbey Croce won the three-meter event on the women's side. 

Swimming continues on Saturday when the women host Bowling Green at 1 pm at the Alumni Arena Natatorium.
