Bulls Complete Opening Night of Tri-Meet with Michigan State and Army

BUFFALO, NY – The State University of New York, Buffalo men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their tri-meet with Michigan State and Army at the Alumni Arena Natatorium on Friday night. After day one of the two-day event, the UB men's team trails Michigan State, 99-68, and Army, 93-74. The UB women lead Michigan State, 91-76, and Army, 93-74.

The men's team opened Friday by winning the 200 medley relay. Jonathan Ekas, Itai De La Vega, Oliver Patrouch and Antonio Lanzi finished with a time of 1:31.78.

De La Vega also won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.73. Scott Huang finished second in 57.15.
On the women's side, Jessica Powers won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:15.39.
 
Spencer Rodriguez won the 200 freestyle in 1:54.63. She barely out-touched Powers who finished second with a time of 1:54.64.
 
Freshman Megan Burns remains undefeated in the 50 freestyle on the season, winning the race with a time of 23.91. Taylor Steffl was a close second, finishing in 23.92.
 
In the relay events, the Bulls won both the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays. In the 200 medley, Melissa Trail, Alexis Valedon, Steffl and Burns finished in 1:45.40.
 
Rodriguez, Paula Stoddard, Hannah Miller and Powers won the 800 free relay in 7:42.67.
 
The meet concludes on Saturday at noon at the Alumni Arena Natatorium.
