UB Swimming & Diving Closes MAC Action with Sweep of Ball State

MUNCIE, IN – The University at Buffalo swimming and diving team concluded Mid-American Conference action by sweeping Ball State in Muncie, IN on Saturday afternoon. The women won, 165-135, while the men were victorious, 178-103.

Once again the women were paced by senior Brittney Kuras who won two individual events and was a part of two winning relay teams. Kuras won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.64 and the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.68. She also swam the anchor leg of the victorious 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay teams.

Spencer Rodriguez had one her finest meets of the season as she won the 200 freestyle (1:55.08) and the 200 individual medley (2:09.03).

Jessica Powers was again dominant in the distance events as she won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:28.72 – 20 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. The UB junior also won the 500 freestyle (5:02.01) and was a part of the winning 400 freestyle relay team along with Kuras, Taylor Steffl and Marissa Murphy.

Marisa Pulaski won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:07.48.

In the diving well, Ava Giachino won both the one-meter and three-meter events.

The men had a number of contributors as they cruised to a victory over the Cardinals.

Mike Dugan and Dan O'Connor each won two events. Dugan won the 50 freestyle (23.64) and the 100 butterfly (51.18). O'Connor was victorious in the 1,000 freestyle (9:28.77) as well as the 500 freestyle (4:42.67).

Matt Bitara won the 200 freestyle (1:44.63) and Tommy Steele won the 100 freestyle (47.62).

Scott Huang won the 200 backstroke (1:57.63) and Eric Jensen won the 100 backstroke (53.38).

Bill Caffee won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.70. John Nord won the 200 breaststroke with a time 2:10.15.

Cade Bennett had a season-best score of 364.58 to win the 3-meter diving event.

The Bulls will compete in the Ohio State Invite next Saturday before the MAC Championships begin the following week.
