CLEVELAND, OH – The University at Buffalo men's and women's swimming and diving teams capped a great weekend of racing by each taking home their respective title at the Cleveland State Invite. The men rallied from 80.5 points down entering the final day to surpass Cleveland State for the title. The women cruised to their victory by defeated second place Cleveland State by nearly 300 points.
On the men's side, Dan O'Connor set yet another school record, his second of the weekend and third of the season. The UB senior won the 1650 freestyle with a school and meet record time of 15:17.19. He shattered the previous school record of 15:31.55 set by Colin McAllister in 2012.
Bill Caffe finished second and Reid Zyniecki placed third in the race to earn valuable points for the Bulls.
Charles Barry won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:49.28, while Phil Aronica won the 50 backstroke with a time of 23.92. Eric Forrester and Eric Jensen finished second and third, respectively, in the 50 back.
Matt Bitara won the 200 butterfly for the Bulls with a time of 1:50.49.
Jessica Powers earned the first win for the women in impressive fashion as her time of 17:04.43 was 16 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Brittney Kuras set a meet and pool record with a time of 49.94 to win the 100 freestyle.
Brittney Walters won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.76.
