A Record-Breaking Day for UB at Cleveland State Invite

CLEVELAND, OH – The University at Buffalo men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the first day of competition at the Cleveland State Invite, but not before four separate meet records were set by UB swimmers and divers. 

On the women's side, Brittney Walters won the 500 freestyle with a meet record time of 4:57.94. Brittney Kuras broke the meet record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.33. Kuras also won the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.80. 

In the diving well, Ava Giachino won the 1-meter board with a meet-record score of 263.15.

On the men's side, Dan O'Connor not only broke the meet record, but also broke the school record in the 500 freestyle. O'Connor, who broke the school record in the 1000 freestyle earlier in the season, posted a time of 4:27.47 in the preliminaries, besting the previous record of 4:28.82 set by Andrew Tanzy in 2011. 

The Bulls were also victorious in the 200 freestyle relay. Antonio Lanzi, Tommy Steele, Aaron Durrence and Mike Dugan swam a time of 1:22.41.

Following the first day of competition, the women are in first place with a score of 483 and the men are in second place with a score of 521.5.
