Men’s Swimming & Diving Drops Close Dual Meet to Penn State

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's swimming and diving team dropped a non-conference dual meet to Penn State, 155-137, at the Alumni Arena Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. Mike Dugan won a pair of events for the Bulls and Dan O'Connor broke the school record in the 1,000 freestyle to highlight the afternoon. 

O'Connor won the 1,000 freestyle with a school-record time of 9:18.69. He broke the previous record of 9:21.09 set by Collin McAllister in 2012. O'Connor won the race by nearly nine seconds.

In the 200 butterfly, Eric Culver took first place with a time of 1:51.26. The Bulls also finished third and fourth in the race to gain points. Matthew Bitara place third with a time of 1:52.91 and Billy Patrum finished fourth with a time of 1:54.30.

Mike Dugan won the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.81. Tommy Steele finished fourth with a time of 21.31.

Dugan took home his second first place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.27. Eric Forrester finished third with a time of 51.29 and Andrew Cole earned a point with a fifth place finish (52.18).

UB divers placed second, third and fourth in the 3 meter event. Cade Bennett finished second with a score of 312.00. Chris Iafrati placed third with a score of 305.18. Derek Mcaninch placed fourth with a score of 289.43.

The Bulls swept the 1 meter event.  Iafrati scored 290.33 to win the event. Derek Linebaugh finished second with a score of 264.60 and Mcaninch placed third with score of 257.48.

Buffalo will next face Colgate next Saturday at Alumni Arena.
