BUFFALO, NY – After more than a week off, the University at Buffalo softball team will host MAC East foe Ohio in the final series of the regular season this weekend.
Due to unplayable field conditions at Nan Harvey Field, the series has been moved to Dobson Field on the campus of D'Youville College. Game one is set for 3pm on Friday and will be followed by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 pm. Saturday is also Senior Day for Alyssa Cuevas, Alissa Karjel, Lace Smith, Catrell Robertson and Ally Power.
The Bulls were last in action on April 24 as they blasted three home runs and recorded 12 hits, their fifth double-digit hit performance of the season, in a win at St. Bonaventure. The team's scheduled series against Kent State last weekend was cancelled due to unplayable field conditions.
Sophomore Anna Aguon continues to lead Buffalo at the plate with a .395 average on the season to go along with five home runs, 13 doubles, a triple, 18 RBI and 25 runs scored while slugging .628. Jenelle Martinez also continues to impress as she is batting .325 while recording four home runs, five doubles, 20 RBI and 20 runs scored. Power leads UB in the circle with an overall record of 5-16 to go along with a 5.40 ERA and has recorded 86 strikeouts while allowing just 36 walks in 135.0 innings of work. Smith has a 5-12 overall record with a 7.94 ERA in 96.1 innings pitched.
Ohio enters the weekend with a 28-19 overall record and a 9-8 MAC mark after dropping two games in a weather-shortened series at Miami (OH). The Bobcats are led offensively by Katie Yun who is batting .413 with 14 home runs, 18 doubles, 35 RBI and 44 runs scored while slugging .762. Morgan Geno is batting .363 with a team-best 17 home runs, six doubles, a team-best 57 RBI and 31 runs scored. Madi McCrady leads Ohio in the circle with an 18-11 overall record to go along with a 3.53 ERA and 174 strikeouts across 182.2 innings of work.
The Bobcats own an all-time series record of 33-12 against the Bulls since the first meeting between the two teams in 2001.
Following the series against Ohio, the Bulls wait to see if they qualify for next week's MAC Tournament, held at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio beginning Wednesday, May 8.
