BUFFALO, NY – After picking up its second consecutive series win at Bowling Green over the weekend, the University at Buffalo softball team travels to crosstown rival Canisius for a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday at Demske Sports Complex.
Game one is set for 3pm with game two to start at approximately 5 pm.
The Bulls defeated Bowling Green 11-9 in an offensive battle in game one of the series on Friday, led by a season-high six RBI effort from Alicia Peters. After dropping game one of the doubleheader on Saturday the Bulls responded with a 5-4 win in game two, capped by a game-winning home run by Anna Aguon to secure the series victory.
Aguon continues to lead Buffalo at the plate as she maintains a .418 average on the season to go along with five home runs, 13 doubles, a triple, 17 RBI and 23 runs scored while slugging .691. Jenelle Martinez also continues to impress as she is batting .324 while recording five doubles, three home runs, 18 RBI and 18 runs scored. In the circle, UB is led by senior Ally Power who has an overall record of 4-13 to go along with a 5.76 ERA and has recorded 66 strikeouts in 114.0 innings of work. Lace Smith has a 5-10 overall record with a 7.70 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 87.2 innings pitched.
Canisius enters the weekend with a 6-25 overall record and a 4-6 MAAC mark after dropping a doubleheader at Iona on Sunday. The Golden Griffins are led offensively by Erin Hufford who batting .380 with three doubles, a team-best 35 hits, two RBI and 20 runs scored. Kara Paradowski is batting .355 with a double, a triple, six RBI and 21 runs scored. In the circle, Canisius is led by Emily Nicosia who has recorded a 5-8 record to go along with a 3.97 ERA across 79.1 innings of work.
After the midweek doubleheader, UB will travel to Oxford, Ohio for a weekend series at Miami (OH), beginning Friday, April 19, at 3 pm.
