Bulls Host Akron in Midweek MACtion on Wednesday

BUFFALO, NY – After a weekend off, the University at Buffalo softball team returns to action with a single midweek game against Akron at Nan Harvey Field on Wednesday at 2 pm.

The Bulls split their midweek doubleheader at Akron last week, dropping the first game 4-3 before exploding for 16 runs on 13 hits, including two home runs, in a 16-6 win in game two. The 16 runs were the most scored by the Bulls since April 3, 2018, also against Akron, while the 16 runs scored, 14 RBI and 31 at bats were all season-highs for Buffalo. The four runs scored by Ufuoma Ogagan and Alexis Matheney tied the UB single-game record.

Sophomore Anna Aguon continues to lead Buffalo at the plate as she improved her average to .404 on the season to go along with four home runs, 11 doubles, a triple, 14 RBI and 17 runs scored while slugging .670. Junior Jenelle Martinez also continues to impress as she is batting .301 while recording five doubles, a home run, 13 RBI and 13 runs scored. In the circle, UB is led by senior Ally Power who has an overall record of 3-12 to go along with a 6.08 ERA and has recorded 51 strikeouts in 100.2 innings of work. Lace Smith has also posted three wins and has a 7/63 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 79.0 innings pitched.

Akron enters Tuesday's game with an 8-21-2 overall record and a 2-8 MAC mark after dropping two of three games at Toledo over the weekend. Akron is led offensively by Sydney Jascoe who is batting .391 with eight home runs, seven doubles, 24 RBI and 16 runs scored while slugging .728. Kayla Wulf is batting .352 with three home runs, five doubles, 17 RBI and 11 runs scored. In the circle, the Zips are led by Kaitlyn Bean who has recorded a 5-8 record to go along with a 4.57 ERA as she has struck out 68 batters across 87.1 innings of work.

Up next, the Bulls open a nine game road trip, starting at Bowling Green with a three-game series beginning Friday, April 12, at 3 pm. The Bulls will then travel across town for a midweek doubleheader at Canisius on Tuesday.
