CLEARWATER, FL – The University at Buffalo softball team dropped both games on day one of the USF Tournament on Friday. The Bulls lost 9-6 to Eastern Illinois in game one, before falling to North Florida 7-1 in game two.
Eastern Illinois jumped on the Bulls early, scoring four runs on four hits in the bottom of the first and added another two runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-0 lead. The Bulls got on the board in the top of the fourth on an RBI walk and scored two more runs on an error to cut the lead to 6-3 but would leave three runners on base and that would prove to be costly as EIU added two more runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 8-3.
Hannah Bardeen led off the fifth with an RBI double but the Bulls were only able to manage a sac fly to cut it to 8-4. Later, trailing 9-4 in the top of the seventh, Alicia Peters led off with a double but the Bulls only scored one run as they fell short in the loss.
The second game of the day against North Florida was scoreless through three innings of play but the Ospreys scored seven runs over the last four innings and the Bulls were able to muster just one run on a Jenelle Martinez RBI double.
Up next the Bulls play a doubleheader on Saturday with a game against Princeton at 11:30 a.m. before facing LIU Brooklyn at 2 p.m.
