NASHVILLE, TN - The University at Buffalo softball team fell to Lipscomb 15-5 in five innings on Friday in game two of the Lady Bison Classic.
The Bulls got on the board in a hurry as Alexis Matheney blasted a solo home run to deep center field on the fourth pitch of the game to give UB a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Bison answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning off a UB throwing error and an RBI single to take a 2-1 lead. Lipscomb would add three runs on two hits in the bottom of the second and would break the game open in the third, scoring six runs on five hits, including two home runs, to take an 11-3 lead through three innings.
Buffalo would claw back in the fourth as Hannah Bardeen smacked a pinch hit two-RBI double to center to cut the lead to 11-3. After the the Lady Bison tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the fifth the Bulls put together one last rally as Jenelle Martinez knocked in two runs on an RBI single in the top of the fifth but the rally would fall short as Lipscomb held on for the 15-5 victory.
Weather permitting, Buffalo will face Valparaiso on Saturday at Noon.
