FULLERTON, CALIF. - The University at Buffalo softball team (0-4) dropped both games of their doubleheader at the Titan Classic on Saturday. UB fell by a score of 10-0 in the first game of the day against Louisville before dropping a tough 3-2 contest in extra innings to Idaho State in the second game of the doubleheader.
It was all Louisville in game one as the Cardinals jumped on the Bulls early and often, scoring two runs in the first, five in the second and another two in the third to take an early 9-0 lead, before adding their tenth and final run in the fourth.
Seven of the ten Cardinals runs were unearned as the Bulls committed four errors in the game. Buffalo was able to manage just one hit, a Jenelle Martinez single, for the second time in three games.
In game two of the day, offense was at a premium as there would be no score through seven innings of play.
Lace Smith was on early, working a three up, three down second inning. Smith found herself in a bit of a jam in the sixth but got some help from her defense as the Bulls turned a 1-6-3 double play to end the inning. The Bengals were in attack mode again in the seventh but the Bulls came up with another inning ending double play and headed to extra innings for second time in three games.
The Bulls would strike first in the top of the eighth as Anna Aguon blasted a two-run home run to center to put Bulls up 2-0.
Idaho State would get on the board with a sac fly in the bottom of the inning and then later, Smith took a comebacker off of her hand and was pulled and replaced by Power who gave up a two-RBI single up the middle as the Bengals walked off with the 3-2 win.
Aguon led the UB offense as she went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Alicia Peters also finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Smith finished gave up just two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts in seven and two thirds innings of work.
Buffalo will return to the diamond tomorrow at 2:30 pm as they close out the Titan Classic with a game against Loyola Marymount.
