MEMPHIS, TN – The University at Buffalo softball team lost a pair of games on Friday in the opening day of the 2017 Memphis Softball Tournament as UB lost 2-0 to Oakland before falling 11-3 to Memphis in five innings.
The Bulls got a solid performance in the circle from Ally Power in the first game as she went the distance as she scattered five hits and allowed just two runs, while striking out six Oakland batters.
The Golden Grizzlies got on the board first in the top of the first on a two-out solo home run and they added another run in the third. UB had its opportunities as it loaded the bases with two outs in the second and the Bulls also had a runner at third in the fourth.
In the second game, Memphis scored five runs in the first inning as the Bulls committed three errors in the opening frame. The Bulls got on the board in the second as Lallos singled up the middle and then she came in to score on the first career home run from Martinez, a two-run shot to left field.
Memphis added one run in the bottom of the third, but the Bulls got that back in the fourth as UB put runners on the corners with one out and Savinon came in to score on a single from Catrell Robertson.
The Tigers scored three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to end the game. Brieanna Baker picked up the loss as she allowed five runs in just 0.1 innings. Lallos went 2-for-2 from the plate in the game, while Savinon, Martinez, Robertson, and Power had the other hits.
UB is back in action tomorrow with a pair of evening contests as the Bulls face Lipscomb at 7pm and Western Illinois at 9:15pm.
