FT. COLLINS, CO - The University at Buffalo softball team finished its weekend at the Colorado State Classic with a 14-1 loss to Penn State followed by the conclusion of yesterday's game against the Rams, which the Bulls lost 8-0.
Penn State scored three runs in the bottom of the first before UB got on the board in the top of the second. Freshman Gabby Keller led off with a single and she came around to score on an infield hit by fellow freshman Jenelle Martinez.
The Nittany Lions scored nine in the bottom of the second and two more in the third to win 14-1 in five innings.
UB then concluded yesterday's game against Colorado State, which was halted in the fourth inning due to darkness. The Rams scored two in the first, four in the second and one in the third to take a 7-0 lead into the fourth before it was called. The game continued today and Colorado State scored one in the bottom of the fifth, which ended the game at 8-0.
"This whole weekend we beat ourselves with defensive inconsistency," said head coach Trena Peel. "Once we start playing error free defense, we are going to dominate. Our bats, defense, and pitching all need to hit at the same time. We have had one or two, but not all three at once."
The Bulls will move on to Memphis, TN next weekend for five more games beginning on Friday with contests against Oakland and Memphis.
