KALAMAZOO, MI – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team had their 2018-19 season come to a close on Saturday afternoon as the second-seeded Bulls lost 4-2 to #3 Northern Illinois in the conference tournament semifinals.
The Bulls got out to the early lead in the match with a victory in doubles play. Buffalo scored a pair of 6-4 victories at second and third doubles. The win at two came courtesy of Vilhelm Fridell and Nickolas Frisk and the win at third doubles came from sophomores Matthew Johnson and Valdemar Holm.
In singles action, Northern Illinois won the first set in five of the six matches. The Huskies picked up wins at six, five, and two, in that order to take the 3-1 lead. Junior Hao Sheng Koay won at third singles to keep Buffalo in the match with a 7-5, 6-3 victory, but an NIU win at fourth singles clinched the match.
UB's lone senior Ethan Nittolo, who was playing in his final match, lost the first set, but won his second set 6-3 before play was stopped.
The Bulls close out the year with an 11-9 record.
