WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team capped off a strong opening weekend of Mid-American Conference play with a 7-0 win over Toledo on Sunday afternoon at the Miller Tennis Center. The Bulls improved to 2-0 in MAC play with two shutout victories.
"This was the weekend we needed, head coach Lee Nickell said. "I am proud that our team played focused and with guts and determination. We capitalized on most opportunities, and closed out sets by playing to win. Now our expectation is to play this way every match, and I know our guys can do that."
Buffalo cruised to the doubles points. Nickolas Frisk and Vilhelm Fridell downed Juan Carranza and Cole Shoults, 6-1, at third doubles. Ethan Nittolo and Hao Sheng Koay beat Luka Vitisovic and Omar Espinosa, 6-3, at first singles.
In singles action, the Bulls won five of the six matches in straight sets. Nittolo made quick work of Vitisovic, 6-0, 6-3, at first singles. Fridell won 6-2, 6-2, over Danilo Vucatic at second singles. Frisk downed Espinosa, 6-2, 6-1 at fourth singles.
Other singles winner for the Bulls included Koay at third and Johnson at fifth.
With the win, the Bulls improved to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in MAC play.
