PRINCETON, NJ - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team concluded the weekend with a 6-1 loss at Princeton. The Bulls are now 5-5 on the year.
Senior Ethan Nittolo and junior Hao Sheng Koay came away with a 6-3 victory at first doubles, but Princeton came away with wins at two and three. The third doubles match was tight throughout before the Tigers came away with a 7-5 victory to clinch the point.
Sophomore Matthew Johnson recorded the lone victory in singles action for UB as he scored a three-set win at fourth singles. Johnson took the first set 6-3 before dropping the second set 6-4. He ended up winning the third in super tiebreaker, 10-8.
The Tigers won the other five matches, although Koay was able to go into a third set in his match at third singles as he won the opening set 6-1 before dropping the final two.
""We have done a much better job of starting in doubles this weekend," said head coach Lee Nickell. "Unfortunately, we blew two good opportunities today to take the doubles point, which turned the momentum of the match. Our fight is still good, and I am excited to get going with the MAC schedule next week."
The Bulls open MAC play next weekend when they host Binghamton on Friday and Toledo on Sunday. Both matches will take place at Miller Tennis Center.
