BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team was picked to finish in second place in the Mid-American Conference preseason poll, the league office announced on Friday morning. The poll was voted on by the league's six head coaches.
Western Michigan was selected to repeat as conference champions, receiving all six first place votes and 36 points. Buffalo was picked second with 28 points, while Northern Illinois was picked third. Ball State, Binghamton, and Toledo round out the preseason poll.
The Bulls are looking to reclaim the league crown that they won in 2017. Buffalo is led by senior Ethan Nittolo and juniors Vilhelm Fridell and Hao Sheng Koay, who were all part of that 2017 championship team. The Bulls also welcome back sophomores Matthew Johnson and Nickolas Frisk, who each had strong fall seasons.
Buffalo has three newcomers on the team led by Utah State transfer Valdemar Holm, who concluded the fall with a win in Flight 2 doubles at the MAC Invite with Johnson. UB also has freshmen Simon Wibler and local product Jonah Murphy.
The Bulls will begin the spring campaign on January 20th at Harvard. Their first Mid-American Conference match will take place on Friday, March 15 against Binghamton. The conference tournament will be held from April 19-21 on the campus of Western Michigan University.
