BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo sophomore Hao Sheng Koay has been named the Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Koay got off to a great start as the Bulls opened their spring season this past week.
Against some tough competition, Koay went 2-0 in singles action. He began the season last Wednesday with a victory at third singles against Murkel Dellien of Wichita State, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (3). He moved up to second singles in the match against Ivy League foe Dartmouth and he was tied at 6-6 in the opening set when the match was clinched. Koay continued to move up the singles ladder as he played number one on Sunday in Buffalo's win over St. John's. In that match, Koay came away with a straight sets victory, defeating Luka Sucevic, 6-2, 6-3.
The Bulls return to action this weekend when they travel down to State College to face Penn State at 12pm.
