BUFFALO, NY – Head men's basketball coach Jim Whitesell has announced the addition of University of Cincinnati transfer LaQuill Hardnett to the University at Buffalo men's basketball program. Hardnett redshirted this past season with the Bearcats.
"We have been interested in LaQuill since his playing days at Perry Hall where he was a state champion," said Whitesell. "He is a dynamic athlete that will really fit well in our style of play because of his versatility. LaQuill received some great experience learning under Coach Cronin at Cincinnati last season and we are ecstatic to have him join our program."
Hardnett, a 6-foot-7, 195-pound forward from Nottingham, Maryland, averaged 17 points, 10 rebounds and four assists with 13 double-doubles as a senior at Perry Hall High School, helping the Gators to a 21-6 mark and their second consecutive Maryland Class 4A state championship. Hardnett scored 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the state title game, helping the Gators rally for the win tallying 12 points in the fourth quarter. He shot 58.6 percent from the field and averaged 19 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two blocks during the tournament.
Hardnett averaged 12.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and four assists with 15 double-doubles as a junior, helping the Gators to a 26-2 mark and their first state crown in 2016-17. He finished as the 2016-17 state tournament's leading rebounder, averaging 16.5 boards per game while also scoring 12.5 points and 2.5 blocks.
A two-time Baltimore Sun All-Metro First Team selection and two-time All-Xfinity All-Tournament team honoree, Hardnett scored 1,087 career points as a three-year starter at Perry Hall.
Hardnett becomes the fifth and final player to join Buffalo for the upcoming season as he joins newcomers David Nickelberry, David Skogman, Savion Gallion, and Josh Mballa.
