BUFFALO, NY – Second-year head coach Nate Oats has announced the addition of Davonta Jordan who signed to play with the Bulls on Tuesday. Jordan will be joining UB for the upcoming 2016-17 season and will have all four years of eligibility remaining.
Jordan is a 6-2, 185-pound point guard out of Cocoa, FL where he played for the highly-successful Montverde Academy this past season where as their starting point guard he averaged 8.0 points and 5.0 assists per game. Jordan is ranked as the ninth best high school player in the state of Florida and the 30th best point guard in the country by ESPN.com, who gave him a rating of 79. His Montverde team was ranked first in the entire state of Florida and fifth nationally by Maxpreps.
Jordan played his first three years at Florida Air Academy, leading all of Florida Class 3A in assists during both his sophomore and junior seasons. On the AAU circuit, Jordan played with E1T1 and this past year he played on the Adidas Circuit for M.O.A.M (Men On A Mission). Jordan was also one of a select group to be invited to take part in the Ty Lawson & Victor Oladipo All American Camp.
"We're excited to welcome Davonta to Buffalo," said Oats. "He's a high character kid that will fit in great with how we want to play. He's extremely athletic, plays very hard, plays at a fast pace, shares the ball, and can really guard on the defensive end and he fits an immediate need we have at the point guard spot. Coach Hodgson did a tremendous job finding someone of his caliber at this time of the year, and did a great job in recruiting him to play here at Buffalo."
Montverde Academy has produced a number of NBA Draft Lottery picks, including the first overall pick in this past year's draft Ben Simmons, and previous year picks D'Angelo Russell (2nd Overall) and Joel Embiid (3rd Overall).
