BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo men's basketball team returns to Alumni Arena Saturday evening, opening the divisional play of the Mid-American Conference season when it faces East rival Kent State. The game, to be televised on Time Warner Cable Sports, will tip at 6 pm as part of a doubleheader with the women.
The Bulls had their four-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night following a 67-65 loss at 14-2 Toledo. Tonight UB looks to begin a new streak as they face Kent State, who like Buffalo is 2-1 in the MAC.
UB is led by senior Javon McCrea, who finished with his seventh double-double of the season, adding 20 points and 10 rebounds at Toledo. He is averaging 17.0 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. He has outstanding numbers in eight all-time meetings with Kent State, averaging 21.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest. He has five games over 20 points and two over 30. McCrea is just 20 points shy of tying Mike Martinho for third place in career scoring at 1,708.
The Golden Flashes are 11-5 on the year after an overtime victory at Northern Illinois on Wednesday night. Kent State is led by Kris Brewer, who is averaging 12.8 points per game. Mark Henniger leads them in rebounds at 5.5 per contest. Kent State leads the all-time series 29-8, but UB has won four of the last five meetings in Buffalo. The two teams have played 13 times dating back to the 2008-09 season. The eight games against Kent State are the most UB has played against any one opponent over the last three years.
The Bulls are a perfect 7-0 at Alumni Arena this season.
