Athlon Sports Names Nine Bulls to its Preseason All-MAC Football Team

BUFFALO, NY – Athlon Sports released its preseason All-Mid-American Conference football team and nine University at Buffalo players were named to the squad. The list was headlined by three first-team selections, running back Jaret Patterson and offensive linemen Evin Ksiezarczyk and Paul Nosworthy.

Defensive end Taylor Riggins and linebacker James Patterson were named to the second team. The third team included running back Kevin Marks, offensive lineman Kayode Awosika, defensive end Malcolm Koonce and cornerback Aapri Washington.

Jaret Patterson posted eye-popping numbers in his first season with the Bulls. The Maryland-native rushed for 1,013 yards and 14 touchdowns on the year – the most ever by a freshman in school history. His 14 rushing touchdowns were two shy of the school record. Patterson, a second-team All-MAC selection, was named the MAC Freshman of the Year – just the second player in program history to receive the honor.

Ksiezarczyk, an All-MAC Second Team selection last season, started all 14 games at left tackle for the Bulls in 2018 and all 12 games in 2017. He helped pave the way for a rushing attack that rushed for 2,648 yards and 36 touchdowns in 2018 – both school records

Nosworthy started 13 games at tackle left guard last season. Along with helping block for a potent rushing attack, the Bulls' senior was part of an offensive line that allowed a program-low 15 sacks in 2018.

Riggins appeared in 14 games and started two at defensive end in 2018, his first season with the Bulls after transferring from Massachusetts. The Webster, NY native ranked second on the team with five sacks to go along with 6.5 tackles for loss and 31 tackles.

James Patterson started all 14 games at outside linebacker as a true freshman in 2018. He ranked second on the team in tackles with 77 and had a team-best nine tackles for loss. Patterson also led the Bulls with four forced fumbles.

Marks appeared in 14 games and made two starts at running back as a redshirt-freshman in 2018. He ranked second on the team in rushing with 845 yards and 13 touchdowns on the season. He scored a touchdown in 10 different games on the year.

Awosika is a third offensive linemen honored by the publication. The Bulls junior started all 14 games at right tackle last season.

Koonce played in 14 games at defensive end last season. He ranked fourth on the team in sacks with three. He had 30 tackles, including four tackles for loss on the season.

Washington appeared in 12 games and started six at cornerback as a redshirt-freshman last season. He had 21 tackles, two interceptions and three pass breakups on the year.
